Crypto Exchange Offers $290,000 Reward for Info on Blackmailer
Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by volume, is offering a reward of up to 25 Bitcoins ($290,000) for information that can be used to help identify a blackmailer threatening to release customer information.
The extortionist demanded 300 Bitcoins in exchange for withholding 10,000 photos allegedly used to help verify accounts, the Malta-based company said in a statement. Binance noted that they’re still investigating whether the know-your-customer information is actually from the exchange and the demands appear linked to images purportedly stolen from leading exchanges that were first publicized and leaked in February 2018.
